The Magnolia blossom is very apropos today as I actually sniffed the first Magnolia Virginiana blossom of the season this afternoon.
I was surprised to actually see opening blooms today. I didn't expect Virginianas to bloom until around May 15th. The Grandifloras come online with their blooms right around the Summer Solstice in this neck of the woods. Some varieties, most notably 'Little Gem', continue blooming sporadically into October! They're amazing with that characteristic.
