Hi Sam! I hope you're well.
You & I planted Trachies about the same time. The one I have was planted in late April of 2007, from a 1-gallon size. 11 years later, it has about 3 foot of clear trunk. It is VERY SLOW, but it does grow. You mention yours as putting out 6 fronds this year. Mine has issued forth 3 or 4. I expect another 2 or 3 by Labor Day, and another 2 or 3 by first frost. Sounds like you're getting a foot of trunk per year. I'm getting about 3.27 inches of trunk per year. So, as bad as you think you have it, it could be worse! On the good side, mine puts out the nicest looking fronds. Good size, great color, healthy all the way to the tips.
