That's a pretty amazing recovery on that needle. I am really surprised it's coming back so fast.
I had a C. humilis cerifera that was badly damaged about two or three winters ago, and I tried to separate all of the suckers into individual pots, since the main trunk was dead. It was a big mistake and only the sucker that was still attached to the main body of roots survived. It is just now starting to grow at a normal rate again.
So I would have thought that the needlo might survive, but it would sulk for a long time. It looks like it hasn't skipped a beat.
