Typically the ones I've seen get wrapped tight with something like frost cloth/blankets/etc then a tarp or layer of something waterproof is wrapped over the first layer. The first layer is mostly just to get a layer between the crown and freezing condensation from the plastic I think. Washies seem to be very trunk hardy if you prevent conditions that cause crown rot.
I'll be putting my hybrid washy in the ground soon, so I'll be experimenting with it for myself for the first time this year.
