I could see the smaller trunk turning black over time and it looks unhealthy. When I pulled away at an old frond boot, there were so many little bugs (ants) inside. I also didn't have much growth. The emerging spears looked alright but weren't moving.
When I dug it up, the crown was so soft. I think it was rotting inside. Had I noticed this earlier, I would have treated it. The problem is that I have matching ones on each side of the pool and had to replace it soon to keep something similar in size. One thing I noticed is that field nurseries here don't tend to sell large majesty palms. I only see them sold at box stores and nurseries as patio plants.
