I'm in zone 7b. This winter I had a low of 5 F with 88.50 continuous hours below freezing. Sabal Riverside burnt to the ground and is coming back. My seed grown Sabal louisianas and Sabal palmettos lost leaves do to a lingering ice coating, but none died. I used heat emitters and 100 watt light bulbs on the bases of my trunking Sabals. I wasn't about to let my palms die when it took such little effort to keep them alive.
