Re: spear pull on my trunking Yucca Rostrata

I have a yucca rostrata here in NY. I always protect it during winters which works perfectly. Then someone told me that they don't need protection here in zone 7a. After hearing that I decided not to protect it 2 winters ago. Well at the end of that winter it had spear pull and all of the fronds were badly damaged and had to be removed. I basically had just a rostrata trunk sitting in front of my house. So I gave it some fertilizer and some lime and after a few weeks, was surprised to see a new center spear start to emerge. There definitely is a chance that yours will also survive. I learned my lesson about protecting it over our winters.
