Arbutus unedo can be a very attractive broadleaf evergreen tree, with the flowers and strawberry-like fruit. Garrya elliptica is also a beautiful BLE, and it's a Western native.
I took the Garrya pic because there were many female plants at this park in Seattle. In fact they all were. What's unusual about that is the female has much shorter 'catkins' and is deemed less ornamental. After seeing these female specimens, I'm sold on them, and want one for myself.
