Don't know, but Butias are very common, and I've almost never seen them reproduce away from the mother tree. Maybe because the seeds are too heavy for small birds and squirrels and too high for larger critters to get to.
Anyway, when they do sow, it's mainly in the boots of the mother tree, occasionally right below the mother in the ground, and maybe once or twice ever I've seen one come up in the woods.
