Nice. Gardenias grow fat but can get 5-10 feet tall. Just make sure there is adequate space to grow out. Also, soil needs to be in the pH 5.5-6.5 range. I just tested mine and it was in the 7-8 range. You may need to modify the soil.
After learning about landscaping in Florida the last 5 years, I'm always looking for low maintenance plants. Things can grow crazy fast and often times I have to trim every 2-3 months. Very true for shrubs to look clean.
Good luck. BTW, Leu Gardens is having their big plant sale next weekend. It will be very busy but I recommend. Lots of unique plants for sale.
