I wanted to compare them to what I have known already about my heritage based on my parents and grand parents origins.
I should be 1/2 Kazan Tatar, 1/4 Crimean Tatar and 1/4 Belorussian..
The results were very puzzling:
25% - Central Asia and the Mongols
10% - Italian and Greek
40% - The Baltics and Poland
10% - Hungarian
15% - Siberian (Inuits)
I could understand Central Asia, the Baltics even Hungarian and Inuit... but Italian and Greek was absolutely strange.
We never had Italians and Greeks in my habitat :-)
I began to dig into the history of the Crimea (on the Black Sea) and found that it was colonized first by Ancient Greeks and later by Romans... therefore my Crimean Tatar linage had Greek and Italian admixture.
My husband (Hank) was so amazed with my results and did his DNA testing as well.
The only gene pool we share was Italian :-)
