I would guess, since they are considered marginally hardy here, they die back from time to time, and also don't take snow loads well with weakened wood. They do not get nearly as big in Pittsburgh as they do on the other side of the state in Philly, But I would imagine they would be fine there. I have seen reports they are weedy like mimosas though, and we have both in Pittsburgh, and mimosas are weedy in Philly, so if it a matter of survival, no worry. Weedy, on the other hand; I suspect, if you don't like mimosas, you won't like Paulownia, and they get much larger than mimosas.
