seeds do appreciate lots or warmth and moisture and light so you should be good to go (sow seed on TOP of soil or cover VERY lightly). yes, you can "stool" the plant back to the base and get regrowth with very large leaves (but no flowers). if this is what you want to do suggest you do it every couple of years. good luck.
