Tommy , that less hardy Palmetto saw 5F in 2014 , 4F in 2015 , 15F in 2016 , 9F in 2017 , and 8F this winter . It looks worse this 8F winter than after the 4F and 5F winters due to the prolonged cold . As you can see it doesn't take much time to look like it did last summer .
I have been trending back to 7B winters over the last 5 winters unfortunately , but with one 8A winter , or 2 growing seasons without the winter between them below 10F , that Palmetto quickly bounces back .
I will be babying it this summer and I'll have a picture of it around October . Most of those fronds with a little green on them will die off and large fronds will dominate the look soon enough this summer . I feel like I should leave the ugly fronds on as long as they are adding to the health of the palm .
Ten year lows: 12F,15F,8F,12F,15F,19F,20F,5F,4F(15F 2016)
10 Year Average Lowest Low 12.5F ; 30 Year 12.2F
