Pineapples can be damaged badly by 28F, depending on the duration and exposure to frost. I had one night this fall where we hit 28F almost the whole night long, and the pineapples out in the open were badly damaged, and probably killed, whereas the ones under palms looked pretty good, but may display latent damage later.
If this is a windy cold even like it was here, all that is really effective is wrapping with heat underneath (mini christmas lights or heat tape). I probably lost some of my 2nd winter citrus trees by failing to employ this strategy.
