Durational event coming

The long aforementioned cold for around New Yearís is finally here. It appears some interior South locations may end up with over 100-120 hours below freezing. To me, this is one of the hardest things to protect with palms unless one just heats their protective apparatus. I want to reiterate John in Coloradoís information about NOT watering the root zone prior to a major freeze. Itís best to have some degree of dry soil so that foliage does not have too much water content. Most will not see zone defining temps at least. I think most everyone here will fare pretty well, but palmetto, for instance does not enjoy long term freezes. Thereís not much one can do except cover, but unless you heat, the inside will eventually be similar to the outside temperature in time.
Good luck palm friends!
