Satsumas are a good choice

Satsumas are an excellent choice because they ripen early -- typically before hard frosts set in. You wouldn't want to risk a variety that needs to hang on the tree all winter. And Satsumas are fairly hardy.
It probably wouldn't take all that much work though, to set up a hoop house framework over the small tree rows and have some plastic ready to protect the crop.
