You are correct on Basjoo clump. It is about 4 years old.
Maybe it is a palmetto though the V split in the leaves makes me wonder. The palmetto got leaves and straw around the trunk and leaves last fall. Also I put strips of landscape fabric sprayed with water repellent (the kind used for tennis shoes) over the crown in between the petioles. It defoliated after last winter but has grown back itís crown this growing season.
I agree that Longleaf look good at that stage. Not like a pine tree but it looks good.
