Everything I've read seemed to imply Trochodendron is exceedingly difficult from cuttings. I've never tried. That might be one reason they tend to be expensive. They are also slow growing -- a characteristic that retail nurseries hate.
I think with seed you just have to make sure the seed is 1) mature and 2) viable.
