Great post Steve. Your pictures are interesting since there has recently been some discussion on the IPS boards about whether sylvestris is more or less hardy than canariensis and dactylifera.
Most seemed to think it was less hardy, but your example is the opposite.
I've seen some nice sylvestris in both San Antonio and gulf shores. I didn't notice them looking any better or worse than other Phoenix species though.
