Thanks. The spot I want the Chamaerops humilis in gets whipped by winds and 3 & 4 yrs ago I had a Needle Palm there that the cold 0-3 deg winds were slowly killing. I lost 50% of it in 2 yrs. So now the Needle is in a southern exposure and gets almost no dead leaves in winter. I don't think the Chamaerops humilis would last there even with protection. I'm tempted to try it wrapped in a South-facing location though.
A Washingtonia robusta is probably too big for me to keep indoors at any time. But as time goes on I'm getting more of a desire for a sun room or small greenhouse for such palms.
