When I lived on the Puget Sound (Kitsap peninsula) my neighbor had two very large Monterey Cypress trees. Eventually they had to be cut down because of the concern that they might topple in a storm and take half of the shore-side bank with it.
We both had around 30' high of bank waterfront, and it was sloughing off over the years.
