Thanks George. I think you're right about a higher elevation provenance on the South Island of New Zealand would provide a better outcome here in the PNW. It's been documented that the species is widely hybridizing with M. excelsa in the Northern part of their range, and that's a 'bad' thing in more ways than one....
In the PNW, we're lucky we can grow so many Gondwana/Southern Hemisphere plants. At the same time, it's so far away a collector has to deal with whatever provenance any available plant might be from, and most of the time it's not ideal.
