The only thing that worked for me was a 5F winter.
I had it on a McCurtain. That white scale is the pits. I think that species of scale is marginal here. When we get a winter low true to our hardiness zone classification, that can wipe them out on a plant. Completely. Of course, that also means frond loss due to cold damage, but you can't have everything!
