I imagine once you clear it in spots to plant,or put in tree's to make some shade..it will back off. You could always cover with weedcloth to smother it,then plant an area.
I would just plant what I like,then cover the ground around with weedcloth and mulch.
What kind of garden are you looking to make? All ornamental or edibles? Formal or natural?
Love dat pond Jane. If you use Tilapia,you can harvest them for food. Deep fried is the way I like then best.
