well the "Tuscany look" as a fad may have come and gone but the red tile roofs and stucco look in California (especially SoCal)architecture predated that and the stone pines, olives, cypress, and similar Mediterranean garden plants are likely even older---starting with the "mission fathers" to at least some degree.
