Thanks for the update from your yard. I'm not growing zz, but I do have a cardboard palm. They will probably take a beating during the winters here, but they are supposed to be fast at recovering.
Those castor beans are so big and lush! My parents sent me a few photos of the ones that reseeded in our yard in NYC and they aren't anywhere near as lush and vigorous as yours.
Can't wait to see how everyone continues to grow!
