I looked up that neighborhood on Google Maps/Street View, since you basically showed us where it is! I see all the streets in that little subdivision are plant-based, but some are hardy, like Pear and Mulberry Streets.
Yep--there are some things there much more common in So-Cal, such as the Dracaena marginata or Schefflera actinophylla (which I think could also be S. pueckleri/Tupidanthus--they're very similar to S. actinophylla but have different flowers and (sometimes) more leaflets).
I see the jacs are still flowering up there. They're mostly done here, though usually some flowers on some trees will continue most of the summer.
