No I did not protect and the damage caught me off guard. Worst I've seen for my citrus in ten years. Think it was the heavy fruit crop last year and the severely reduced number of fall hardening off freezes. Meyer Lemon and the sweet orange actually did a bit better than average, which indicates to me perhaps hardening off freezes are of less benefit to them versus mandarins like satsuma and ponkan. Satsumas had no branch dieback but my oldest was almost completely defoliated-- a first. Satsumas up agains the how or under palms took very little damage. Same with cycads and overhead protection.
