Re: Fire Ants in DE

I've mowed a lawn a few times in south Florida. Fire ants climbed up the mower handle and bit my hands wrists, and forearms. I got some bites below the knees too. That didn't hinder me though. Their bite is worse than a mosquito but much less severe than a deer fly pain wise. I don't think I'm allergic. I've seen them & their mounds in central TX too.
BTW, about 20 years ago I was at a beach house in DE, and I heard what sounded like a flock of parakeets flying over me. And they looked like parakeets too. They were a brownish green. I've never seen parakeets in the region before. I looked them up on-line and they were Monk Parakeets. There are large populations in FL and also IL. A recent map I saw showed them living in eastern DE.
