Everything you say about protection makes perfect sense. I think it makes perfect sense for your region in that your winters are more steadily cool than ours. I think my problem is that we warm up too much between cold spells and too abruptly- so much so that I can't imagine having plants covered the entire winter during those random 75 degree days. Of course when we tune in to the weather we usually zone in on our own locations so I'm not as familiar with your winter temperatures but AR, TN and MS get some pretty warm plains and Gulf heat and I feel like I'd have to run around uncovering everything so it didn't cook. Then I'd have to run around and re-cover three weeks later for one or two nights of doom. Then on top of all of that, our relentless summer heat is so tough on windmills that I wonder if it does more damage than the winter. I feel like their favorite month here is November. Every palm has a different set of rules in a different state!
