Dictyosperma are 10b - marginal 10a, not something that grows in Central FL

I wouldn't call them common, even in SoFL, but they aren't uncommon, or rare, so it could be that someone planted them in your Sister and Brother-in-Law's landscape. Its a small-medium sized palm that fits just about anywhere. I don't think they'll survive your long, cool winters though Stan. But we'll get a chance to see now.
Veitchia are better adapted, more common, grow really fast, endure tropical storms and cold better. Its nice to see them being planted in zone 10 FL, even in 9b (though they are short-timers here).
