the scale attack MAY perhaps be connected to other environmental factors---too much shade, not enough air circulation, drought OR poor drainage, etc. the fact that your plant has a problem may not be indicative of m. figo or the hybrid's real suitability to your general area---but your particular spot in your garden may somehow be a bad spot in some way for some reason. good luck.
