Re: "true" Trachycarpus takil and T. princeps hardiness

I have three small takils, but so far they have only been in pots. They are between 1 and 2 gallon size. Observations of hardiness in pots is definitely tricky to compare with in-ground hardiness. This winter was the first time mine stayed outside. Because all of my plants are in pots while I am building a new home, I got to see how various palms handled the cold in very similar circumstances.
My takils took less damage than my similar sized fortunei or nainital. Only one of my 3 lost a spear, and it didn't pull until last week. None of my takils, including the one that lost its spear, took any leaf damage. My other trachycarpus of similar size all had at least some leaf damage, though none had more than about 20% leaf burn. Being in pots though, my palms experienced different obstacles than usual. While I move them into the garage any time temps were predicted to go lower than about 18F, they did experience 22F while their pots were soaking wet. So by the time they got move to the garage, their pots were frozen solid.
I'm cautiously optimistic that they will turn out to be a little hardier than all of their cousins. It really is hard to say though. My two waggie that are bigger than all of my other trachycarpus (5 and 15 gallon) both took no damage at all. So they might get hardier with some size?
I've never had a princeps, so I can't help with that one.
