Yeah I don't think they protected those guys. I never saw any protection on them anyways. They wrapped them the first winter with fiberglass insulation. I'd hoped they'd wrap every year. The sabals are toast even if they try to recover, because our growing season is just too short for meaningful recovery before they get slammed with our winter. I hope I'm wrong, but I've tried and killed enough to see how it works. Pleasant surprise about the washes! Glad you posted them. If you get to Tulsa, run by Safari Joes H2O (formerly BigSplash). They planted a ton of Sabal palmetto a couple years back, a few were alive last time I went through but they were rough. I think a couple ratchet straps for the crown and some R19, Christmas lights, a tarp and a couple hours would help a sabal go a long way here.
