While there are about 10 or so butias that I consider really nice here, those 2 silvery butias are especially nice. They seem to glow! And they are even nicer in person than my camera attempts. There are even a few larger seedlings growing underneath them. I have not seen them protected and last winter's temps did not faze them.
There are some huge Magnolia grandiflora's in that area - maybe 70 feet tall? I agree - while we get great November color with the hardwoods here, I really like all the big evergreens - especially in winter.
