I think that the old leaf bases are falling because the growth bud area has moved to a lower area on the trunk. Before being damaged the old growing bud area used to be higher on the trunk , but all that tissue was damaged and died.A new top of the growth bud area began growing lower on the trunk and all the old leaf bases that are falling off were associated with the old growth bud area that is no longer there. The thickness of the new growth bud area had to start off thin (one spear) while the old growth bud area (before being damaged) was thick with many leaves associated with it.That has left a bunch of old leaf bases that are not part of the new growth bud area. My terminology needs perfecting but I hope I make some sense.Of course I could be wrong but I do think the palm looks very healthy. Will
