Hi Tommy , Its not something Im proud of but this part of Tennessee (Eastern Highland Rim/North Plateau) is the coldest wintertime area in the south including Tennessee of where a population of people reside.
Some of the Mile High Peaks in the Smokies can get rather treacherous in winter with the precip and temps but there is no population of people living there.
We had snowfall from October 2008 thru April 2009 . Although the snow was light or just flurries in some of those months , snow fell for 7 months straight. Global warming dont float around here, haha.
This is unprecedented and I hope it never happens again.
The North Part of the Plateau is often seen in a blimp on the map.
The southern part (Monteagle region etc.) is not always in the color depression.
The Highland Rim is not only in the Eastern part of Central Tennessee but completely surrounds the Nashivlle Basin in which Nashville and the metro area is located. The eastern side near me is 114 miles ENE of Nashville.
Thanks for showing that map Tommy , Looks like the south Plateau got highlighted that time and you can see the Highland Rim.
While actually living in the Highland Rim , The plateau uplands surround my town and is a 5 minute drive but some parts of my town is on the plateau and makes for a 5 minute drive in a raging snowstorm or a winter rain sometimes. Its funny. Cookeville and Monterrey have the same scenario at times.
FREEZE WARNINGS TONIGHT , first freeze of the year for many many areas of Tennessee. There go the Orinco Bananas Ive been seeing in the higher elevations around here!
