I just got back from visiting family in Southern Louisiana. On the way back, I stopped at Stoke's Tropicals in New Iberia and "loaded up"! I couldn't fit anything else in the SUV!
I got 6 sabal palmettos for $20 each. They were too big to ship so I think they were glad to move them. They're not trunking but are about 6 ft. tall and ready to go in the ground! I'll overwinter them and plant them in spring.
I also got some sabal minors for $10 each. They were small but very healthy. Hopefully they're var. Louisiana
Also, got Stromanthe--wasn't aware of them before, but they are beautiful! I'll overwinter them and put them in some oversized pots I have in the spring.
Oh, also picked up a couple nice sized Clivias.
One thing I got that was free was cast iron plant! I dug several clumps from a cousins backyard and planted them around a new willow oak I planted last month.
If you're ever in the area, definitely check them out. It seems you get bigger specimens/better pricing if you can get them at the nursery.
I already anxious for spring! It's going to be a long winter
