: I cannot speak for the first season; however I
: was there for the 2nd and 3rd. Rubber and
: non-functioning prop M-16's and AK-47's were
: used for the show for different reasons. The
: three most common I saw were:
: 1. The weapon was used by an extra who would
: not be firing it for the scene. This was
: especially true when you had a large number
: of GI extra's and you may not have had
: enough weapons to go around.
: 2. The weapon was being used by a stuntman
: who would be taking a fall (dying or getting
: shot) with the weapon.
: 3. The weapon was going to be used to hit
: Occasionally an extra or principal gets into
: a "good shot" (close enough where
: you can see detail) where it was not
: expected. The director may not have noticed
: the detail of the rubber M-16 since he is
: looking for the overall sense of the scene.
: By the time the film was developed and goes
: to post-production / editing it is to late
: to re-shoot the scene and the scene cannot
: be cut because it is integral to the story.
: I hope this answers you question. Mike (ToD
: extra 1988 - 90)

: Season 1 episode 14 "Under Seige"
: why rubber M-16 at the beginning at 2
: minutes and 10 seconds?. Didn't the editors
: or who ever is responsible notice the
: mistake?. I love the show just curious how
: they missed this one. Thank you.
