: Aloha Peter, The first season was filmed on
: the Island of Oahu at many locations. The
: main location of the set was on a US Army
: Base called Schofield Barracks in Wahiawa
: Hawaii.
:
: The directions would to be as follows;
:
: The installation is approximately 17 miles
: from the airport. To reach Schofield
: Barracks from Honolulu International Airport
: follow exit directions to Interstate H1 west
: bound. Proceed on H-1 to the H-2 interchange
: and go north to Wahiawa.
: Continue on H2 (about 8 miles) until it ends
: into a divided highway (Wilikina Drive 99),
: proceed to the second traffic light
: (Wilikina & Kunia Road) and turn left
: onto Kunia Road. Make a right at Foote Gate
: onto Kolekole Ave.
: Follow Kolekole Ave to the 3rd traffic light
: (Humphreys Rd)
: Turn right on Humphreys Road
: Humphreys Road curves to the left and
: becomes Trimble Road
: Follow Trimble Road to the TOD filming
: location.
:
: We filmed at many locations on Schofield
: Barracks.

: Aloha Peter,
: The exact address of our office at the
: filming location is listed below;
: 31820 Henry Mayo Drive, Castaic, California
:
: Going up I-5 you pass Santa Clarita then
: Valencia and take a left on Henry Mayo Drive
: and to the left of Henry Mayo Drive is the
: location we filmed Season Two and Three.
: The dirt roads into the mountains and
: valleys are how we drove to the filming
: locations.
:
: I'll send Craig a scanned copy of our
: "TOD Third Season" letter head as
: a PDF file. He can send you a copy or post
: it on his web site for download.
:
: Thanks again for the question and every
: answer brings back my good memories of the
: TOD series.

: Speaking of the location of season 2. Using
: google maps, what would be the exact
: location of the set and main filming area.
: From what ive gathered from other cast and
: crew, it's somewhere in the Santa Clara area
: near the Newhall Ranch. I just can't for he
: life of me find out where. Your help would
: be apprieciated.

: Aloha Peter,
:
: I noticed your question on this web site-
: (My question would be "Was the idea of
: location change and the introduction of
: women to the storyline greeted with a good
: response from the actors and crew?")
:
: The location change from Hawaii to Valencia
: California after the first season was not
: well accepted by the majority of the actors
: and crew. Zev Braun made this decision to
: save costs and he wanted to use the old MASH
: set located in Valencia California.
: Eventually, it ended up costing more than
: filming in Hawaii due to several reasons.
: Most of the scenes required spraying the
: brown grass and background to look green
: like the jungle and it was difficult to
: transport the crew and extras to the filming
: locations in Valencia. Valencia was cold
: compared to Hawaii; so, many of the scenes
: were filmed in cold temperatures which was
: not pleasant for the actors and crew. In
: Valencia we had to rent and bring all the
: coconut trees, palm trees, bamboo and other
: plants to the set in order to make the
: background look like Vietnam. Hawaii was a
: perfect match to Vietnam where everything is
: green and tropical looking. The ratings
: started to drop after moving to Valencia and
: the air time slots eventually moved to non
: prime time air slots which further impacted
: the ratings. In my opinion had Zev
: continued to film in Hawaii the series would
: have lasted much longer.
:
: Introduction of women to the storyline was
: well accepted by everyone. During the War
: in Vietnam many women were involved as
: doctors and nurses. I don't remember any
: woman reporters in Vietnam however; I worked
: at the front line during the War where most
: reporters were distant from those areas.
