For us the fun and games was the telephone party line. Six or seven houses were each on a party line and when someone else was using the phone you had to wait. If you dial the last digit of one phone on the line and last digit of another phone, it would ring at both houses. We would ring the last digit of Aunt Ida and Ethel Harper up the road and then listen to the conversation. They would talk for ever and then one would say, I'm glad you rang me. And the other would say, I did not ring you you rang me! Mischief! Hey entertainment was hard to come by. Ernie...
