Posted by Joe on October 17, 2001, 8:43 pm Published Friday, October 12, 2001 12:12 AM CDT Three Ferriday men were arrested Thursday after Concordia Sheriff's deputies investigated a suspected dog-fighting ring. "It's the most inhumane thing in the world," he said. "The real horror is if one of those things gets loose and attacks a child -or an adult - anyone." Maxwell said the case was still under investigation, but said he expects more arrests to follow. "It may be tomorrow. It may be a week from now," he said. Maxwell would not speculate on how many additional arrests were likely. Frederick Saulsberry, 17, 709 S. Sixth St., Ferriday, Joseph Green, 21, 200 Kyle Road Apt. 40, Ferriday, and Maurice Smith, 21, 204 Georgia Ave., also of Ferriday, were arrested on charges of cruelty to animals and dog fighting. Each was held without bond late Thursday. Both charges are felonies, Maxwell said. "A felony is a serious offense." Maxwell said he has noticed a rise in the number of pit bulls seen throughout the area, which usually means fighting is on the rise, he said. "We're really trying to get to the bottom of it."
