: Well, this is was yet another awesome issue
: in this excellent new series. The book's a
: bit quirky, but the humor is balanced nicely
: with the seriousness and the action, I
: think. And Al Rio's artwork was definitely
: the best I've seen from him for sure.
: This issue, the Headmen storyline took a
: backseat, but what we saw was very
: interesting. The Headmen have always been
: oddball characters, so they are certainly a
: perfect fit for this title. Poor Humbug lost
: his head to Chondu the Mystic. Whoops. And
: the bits about Gorilla Man being as verbose
: as he was hairy and Gorilla Man's comment
: about having wanted to use Humbug's head as
: a mascot were pretty hilarious. The ending
: was quite the shock, though. I totally
: wasn't expecting it. Orka, blasted through
: the chest by the Doombot! I can't say I'm
: happy to see another old bad guy bite the
: dust, but at least this time the scene was
: truly unexpected and surprising, at least to
: me. According to the solicits, someone was
: supposed to die in this issue, so I guess
: Orka will be served up in some seafood
: restaurant after all.
: Meanwhile, the Grim Reaper/Man-Ape story
: moved along wonderfully. I can honestly say
: that seeing Man-Ape in a bathrobe while
: still wearing his costume underneath was a
: bit silly, but the part where the Grim
: Reaper with his head in the toilet....while
: that scene offended my friend Tiger Shark, I
: was fine with it because of the way it was
: presented. It would have been one thing if
: the Reaper had stuck his head in there on
: his own or he landed there by accident, but
: Misty was sticking the Reaper's head in the
: toilet as a ploy to force him to talk, so I
: was okay with the scene. Good guys and bad
: guys alike use that tactic all the time.
: In any case, while the fight scene with the
: Reaper and Man-Ape was brief, I enjoyed it
: nonetheless. Man-Ape is quite the brawler,
: while I loved that big panel where the
: Reaper was whirling that blade of his at the
: girls in an attempt to cut them down. What
: shocked me the most, though, was the moment
: when Saboteur got killed off by an angry
: Grim Reaper for saying the wrong thing at
: the wrong time! Damn! There went another
: one, but I was stunned for sure. Although
: the moment was bad for poor Saboteur, it
: showed just how much of a bad ass the Reaper
: still is. I also enjoyed the bit of
: continuity when one of the girls mentioned
: something about the Reaper being racist. I
: haven't read Englehart's WEST COAST AVENGERS
: in years, so I had forgotten all about that
: fact. Nice job.
: It appears the Reaper and Man-Ape may have
: been hired by Dr. Doom, but I am hoping for
: a neat twist here. Perhaps Justine Hammer,
: the Crimson Cowl, is the mastermind? After
: all, her base borders Latveria and Symkaria.
: Or perhaps it's a revived Lucia von Bardas?
: Or that Zorba guy from the old FF stories?
: Or better yet, perhaps it's the mysterious
: Veil? I guess we'll see.
: Anyway, I can't wait to see what happens
