Yesterday, I was checking out HFH #2 at marvel.com. The images were drawn very nicely inside the panels. I am amazed with Billy artwork/pencil work; it gets better and better each time he draws the comicbook for every issue. Man. Billy penciling is Art-terrific! I am glad he is the penciler for HFH. --Previous Message--
: What a fantastic comic this was! I enjoyed
: every page of it! Great story, nice art,
: lots of action and good characterization. I
: liked the page-by-page introduction to each
: team member, which works well for those who
: picked up the book and didn't know who
: anyone was. The Avatars of the Mandarin were
: handled easily, but I didn't care much for
: them anyway. But the last part of the book
: was the best, featuring a big heaping
: handful of old, obscure Marvel villains,
: three of whom I thought had some nice
: I liked Vienna . She first appeared in
: Master of Kung-Fu#121 but later showed up
: in Power Man and Iron Fist#91 and Power
: Man and Iron Fist#101 . She's a big spy and
: master manipulator, so I thought it was cool
: when I discovered that she was working with
: Misty and the H4H team to catch some bad
: guys. Of course, she did it for the money,
: but that's what she does.
: Meanwhile, some other old Master of Kung-Fu
: villains also showed up. Kogar is a face
: I'd never thought I'd see again. I have a
: few of the Master of Kung-Fu issues he
: showed up in, the ones drawn by Jim Craig.
: Those also featured Pavane and Skullcrusher,
: two of my more favorite Shang-Chi baddies.
: Ghost-Maker from Master of Kung-Fu#110-111
: and Daredevil Annual#10 (where he was
: resurrected) and Shadow Slasher from
: Master of Kung-Fu#98 I never saw before
: except at the Appendix site, but it was
: still interesting to see them.
: I believe that Grindhouse is a new
: character and I'm hoping we get to see her
: again in this book soon because she's
: intriguing to me so far. Interesting look.
: I last saw Bloodshed in Web of
: Spider-Man#81 , although he also appeared in
: one of those Spider-Man Unlimted issues.
: Talk about obscure. While I didn't care for
: the character, it was still nice to see
: another old baddie show up.
: And then there were the three biggest
: treasures! Seeing Shockwave again was a
: major treat. He escaped after the New
: Avengers Breakout story, so it's nice to see
: him brought back. I look forward to seeing
: his appearance in the upcoming Union Jack
: mini as well. Meanwhile, it was an even
: bigger treat for me to see Goldbug again!
: I love this guy! I have his two appearances
: in Power Man and Iron Fist#41-42 and I
: also have a few of his Hulk appearances (as
: well as the Solo Avengers appearance). Both
: he and Shockwave got some decent
: characterization during their two page
: discussion with each other. Very nice! And
: both of these guys were used well during the
: fight sequence, too.
: But the biggest treat of all was the return
: appearance of one of my more favorite
: obscure Marvel bad guys -- Equinox !!!
: Oh, man, how fantastic it was for me to see
: this guy again after all of these years! I
: haven't seen Equinox since that old Marvel
: Comics Presents story featuring him, his
: daughter and the Falcon. He didn't say
: anything and didn't do too much, but it was
: still awesome to see him again. And I liked
: the panel where he took down the Black Cat.
: My only gripe about the whole thing is that
: Equinox's appearance didn't shift from
: panel-to-panel like it did in the old days.
: It was always top half ice and bottom half
: fire in one panel to top half fire and
: bottom half ice the next. That didn't happen
: here, which was disappointing, but I decided
: to chalk it up to him gaining better control
: over his abilities. In any case, seeing
: Equinox again after all these years made my
: day, my week, my month and my year! TOTALLY
: I also liked the entire six-page fight scene
: between H4H and the villains. No quickie,
: blink-and-you'll-miss-it, one-or-two panel,
: useless cameo appearances for these baddies
: (like you see nowadays in lots of other
: comics, most notably Dan Slott's stuff and
: other places). Nope. Six pages of action
: featuring these guys. They even got the
: upper hand and defeated the heroes (although
: the H4H wanted to be defeated as a part of
: the plan, which was fine). I felt great
: about the way Gray and Palmiotti used these
: guys, especially with the crafty Vienna's
: little double play thrown in for good
: Overall, Heroes For Hire#1 was just
: fabulous. I look forward to reading more
: issues of this title, which may very well be
: my new favorite comic now, just under Ms.
: Marvel. Likely, this book won't last, but I
: sure plan on enjoying every issue until it's
: over! Well done!
