R. Lloyd Ming is a fine artist living and working in New York, London and Paris. His work includes sculpture, painting, installations, video art and photography. However Ming is more known for his controversial sculptures that utilize the art of the readymade, a conceptual class of art made famous by French artist Marcel Duchamp in the 1920’s. Ming’s subject matter is varied. He sees his role as a reporter of human progress through art. His new works have dealt with everything from African American stereotypes to Jewish and Muslim identity. His early works were mostly two dimensional decorative wall sculptures made of reflective glass. Ming’s show in March 2009 show called “I Am Not Chinese” highlights America-China relations and the growth of China’s middle class as it relates to the American Dream.
