It appears to me that your William Fraser was working in the British Navy yards during the American Revolution. If you search the Nova Scotia Archives' online Land Petitions database at http://www.gov.ns.ca/nsarm/databases/, for "William Fraser" in all counties, I think you will find some further references to your ancestor. If you are unable to visit the archives in order to view the entire 'memorial' or land grant petition, the website has a list of researchers who can be hired to do the work for you. William Fraser received 37 1/2 acres June 2, 1785 as part of a land grant of 'front lots' on the west side, Milford Haven River, at the head of Chedabucto Bay in Guysborough Township, NS made to members of the Navy & Army departments.*
