Posted by ardella I mistakenly noted in my previous message that Joseph Headley was a Loyalist. I meant to write that he was a pre-loyalist, and one of the New England "Planters" who founded Liverpool,Queen's Co., NS in 1759. In 1758 he joined Cornwallis and Boscowan and took part in the battle of Louisburg. After 1762 he lived in Liverpool and petitioned the Council at Halifax for five hundred acres of land at Port Joli, Lunenburg Co. His name is mentioned in the first of the Real Estate deals in Liverpool. In 1765 he applied for 2500 acres of land for himself and four sons at Milford Haven, Chedabucto Bay. It is believed that he remained in Liverpool for a few years before moving to his property at Chedabucto.

Chris and Other Hadley Researchers:
Dr Jost was not sure if he was the Liverpool settler or not, however research seems to prove that he was the same person. Joseph married first Ruth and then "ESTHER TUTTLE ATWATER" Widow of Ward Atwater. His son John Headley married Elizabeth Young dau of Henry and Elizabeth Young in 1767. After John's death by drowning she became the 2nd wife of Col. Simeon Perkins of Liverpool. It appears from his information that they were married 10 Sept 1775, and Elizabeth died 18 Sep 1825 at Ithica.
Joseph Headley was my 4th great grandfather and I have did extensive research regarding his whereabouts. We have researched documents in Liverpool as well as corresponded with several other Hadley researchers and all have come to the conclusion that there were some errors in Dr Jost's information.
If anyone wants to correspond with me regarding any of the above, please feel free to contact me.
