Hi, Here's a response I got about your question from Dr. Allan Marble:
Chris: Yes NSARM has an index to deaths which occurred in Nova Scotia during the period 1864 to 1877. These were collected by the provincial government and recorded in registration books. There are registration books for each County and the books and the index have been microfilmed and are available at NSARM. During the period 1878 to 1907 no deaths were recorded however, in 1908, the government continued the registration process and it continues to this day. On 1 April 2006, NSARM will put the index to deaths in Nova Scotia, 1864-1877, 1908-1954, on their web site.
