There is nothing in the constitution to extend the regency. The Cortes would have to declare Leonor unable to reign.
On other board you asked this same question and somebody, with no knowledge, said that the Cortes can ignore the constitution and bypass Infanta Elena and the rest in line as regents. Completely nonsense.
And Luis was still 16 when Felipe V abdicated.
On the Benelux RMB there was recently an interesting discussion regarding majority age.
If, for the sake of the discussion, the king would die while Leonor was still a minor, would she be given the "reigns of the realm" when she would be 18 and become the Queen with full powers and in full exercise;
Or is there any plan B to allow the extension of the regency for a few more years, bearing in mind that, at 18 she would be a kid that would have just left school and would not have had the possibility of continuing her studies, going to university, etc. ?
Could she have a word, and ask the regent to extend its duties for some more years, possibly with the government agreement, while she would complete her education ?
